Trusted insights. Thoughtful conversations. Confident decisions.

As children grow, families encounter new opportunities, challenges and decisions. Families are navigating an endless stream of advice, opinions, trends and information competing for attention.

Minnetonka Public Schools is committed to partnering with families through every stage of a child's development. We believe families deserve access to trusted, objective, research-informed information that helps connect what children are experiencing in school with what they are experiencing at home.

Parenting with Purpose, a Minnetonka Public Schools initiative, provides practical, evidence-based insights to support families from early childhood through young adulthood. The goal of this program  is to provide developmental research, expert perspectives and real-world strategies to help families make informed decisions aligned with their own values, goals and unique circumstances.

Growing and Practicing Independence

Executive function skills help children and young adults manage themselves, their learning and their responsibilities as they grow. These skills include organization, planning, self-regulation, problem-solving, flexible thinking and time management.

Through the Parenting with Purpose series, families will learn what executive function skills are, how they develop over time, and what is developmentally appropriate at different ages and stages. We will share research-informed insights and practical strategies that families may choose to use to support skill development at home.

When schools and families share a common understanding of executive function, students benefit from consistent opportunities to practice and strengthen these important life skills.

Managing Technology in a Connected World

Technology is woven into many aspects of children's lives, from learning and creativity to communication and entertainment. At the same time, families are surrounded by a constant stream of headlines, opinions and advice about technology's impact on children and teens. Our goal is to help families make sense of this by exploring what current research tells us about technology and healthy child development.

Rather than offering one-size-fits-all answers, our goal is to provide trusted information that helps families think critically, ask informed questions and develop technology expectations that work for their unique circumstances. Families will gain practical tools for evaluating information, understanding current research and making decisions that support healthy development while preparing children to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
